Wow! I had no idea the zoo is open over the winter--and free admission! I'll have to go! I haven't been there since... eh... the early 90s, so I imagine much has changed.

Yes, the camel was very cute and lovey. She wanted to chew our brightly-colored gloves, and lean on the shoulder of any tall person who came close to her fence. However, one of the zoo-keepers complained she had bad breath. I guess that's why she's called a "Bacterian" camel! I hope she's there next time we visit!

BTW, the seal picture above is adorable!

I took my kids in the mid 90s, too. Returning today, I didn't discover much that was different. It was nice, in a way... rather nostalgic.

Yeah, and the camel was so funny when it had an itchy nose and rubbed her nostrils on the wire fence! Her flabby nostrils and lips flubbered against it! Too funny!

It looks as if that white lama in above photo is almost envying her braces -- lama teeth stick straight out. One of the lama had big black beady eyes that stuck straight out of the sides of his head, and his teeth protruded straight out of his mouth. We nicknamed him "Buck."

LOL, Historian, I didn't know you guys actually names the black llama! Yeah, his teeth were pretty bad... all their teeth were bad. Must be a llama thing.

I love the pics. Makes me want visit. In NY I’ve only been to the zoo in Syracuse. BTW there is a camel in a person’s front yard on the way to Bainbridge. I think it is also an alpaca farm.

OH MAN-- a CAMEL!?! We've have GOT to go down and see it. Where is it, Route 8? Route 207?

The best zoo I've ever been to is the Bronx zoo. I went with a group of classmates for a drama class assignment-- we had to study an animal at the zoo, and act it out in class the next day. The best one anyone did was the guy who imitated a seal-- he was an auto mechanic, barking orders from under a car. It was so funny!
