The Great Boston Molasses Massacre

Friday, December 07, 2007

I had been doing some studying and discovered a fantastic story of streets being filled in a modern-day catastrophe: the Great Boston Molasses Massacre of 1919. On the Internet, it is regaled with "urban legend" status, but it did indeed happen.

I've written about it and placed the post on my blog, New York Traveler.net. Check it out- it's amazing!

We had read about this and seen some photos over the years and the boss has a sort of scary story about a much smaller, but still awful molasses spill that filled the basement of a small feed mill near here. thanks for the reminder!

What a sticky situation! (sorry I couldn't resist!)
On a serious note, how terrible to die like that! Makes one want to be even more prepared for one's final day! gulp(no pun intended)

Maybe it was the genesis for the movie "The Blob." :-p
