Not Everybody Can Have a Great Dane

One of the most difficult things about being a travel blogger is that people usually know when and where you are going. This can make home security a little problematic. The LAST thing you want to do is advertise your absence from home.
Of course, you can always remain "mum" during the trip (which I frequently do) but sometimes this is difficult because blog and Facebook readers like to get "real time" updates as you travel. I really enjoy the "play by play" kind of blogging, because I am able to include little snippets or anecdotes that would otherwise be lost in the "big picture" travel experience.
What do you do when you travel? Do you throw caution to the wind and announce your travels across the social networks? Do you have some kind of home security family system that keeps prowlers away? Or do you invest in large growling dogs or barbed wire fencing?
