Rally for Riggies

Monday, September 24, 2007

I'd wondered why my Chicken Riggies recipe has been getting a billion hits for the past week or two. WSYR9 has the story but they have a new policy about using their copyright-protected words.

Copyright 2007 Clear Channel Broadcasting. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

WKTV says, with their typically rich and detailed journalistic style:

Utica's favorite and classic dish, Chicken Riggies, will be featured today world-wide. 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray on The Food Network will be showing off the famous local special.

Be sure to tune into The Food Network at 2:30 PM for today's 30 Minute Meals. Check your local listings for channel information.

The Utica OD is silent about it, which is unusual (they usually trumpet such social fluff all over the front page). But perhaps I just can't find the story amidst their confusing webpage design and glut of "back to school" videos.

Chicken Riggies are very good, although everyone seems to have their own recipe up here. Central New York, for all its woes, has terrific food. I had some of DeFazio's (out of New Hartford) chicken wings and they knocked my socks off. The owner refuses to reveal his recipe. I'm working on it. ;)

About Rachel Ray...I copied the following from the Food Network:

Chicken Riggies and 'Scarole with Soul

In Western New York State the Italian American community has a specialty - Chicken Riggies.

Ummm. WESTERN NEW YORK?! Since when is Utica in Western New York? Maybe west of Saratoga...isn't that where she's from?, but it's certainly not western New York.

For some reason, that annoyed me.

Maybe she'd get a drop in ratings if they'd said "Central" NY...

On a webpage, it says Ray lives in the "Adirondack." LOL. I think perhaps a crew member wrote the summary...

The Adirondack? HA! That is funny.
